Outdoor canopy is a broad term for a variety of canopy products that differ in both styles and sizes. In addition, there are many different pipe diameters that can be used to make an outdoor canopy. It is important to know the dimensions of the area where the outdoor canopy will be used. Coverage dimensions as well as weather conditions are two key factors when choosing the canopy that is best for your application. Regions with moderate weather conditions have the option of using just about any canopy but for regions of heavy snowfall or extreme heat, choosing the right canopy is essential. When purchasing an outdoor canopy for areas with frequent and heavy snowfall the canopy cover should be a minimum of 9-10 oz. in weight with 48” rafter spacing for the frame members. Moreover, it is advised to purchase an outdoor canopy with a minimum of 1-5/8” diameter tubing. CanopiesAndTarps.com offers a line of pre-selected outdoor canopies that are perfect for regions with frequent snowfall. Our snow load canopies include both peaked roofs and dome shaped roofs and all include heavy-duty polyethylene covers.
The dome shaped outdoor canopy is designed with a radius steel frame that has gained much popularity due to the fact that is can shed snow quickly. The aerodynamic frame is low profile and highly resistant to wind. Snow load canopies offered by CanopiesAndTarps.com are constructed using 1-5/8” frame members and are comprised of high yield carbon steel. This unique construction is present in all of our outdoor canopy fames and starts by the production of the steel tubing. The process by which we make our tubing starts with a flat strip of steel. The flat strip of steel is cold formed and then induction welded for ultimate strength. After the completion of the weld, the tubing then undergoes two separate dipping procedures called coating baths. The first dip bonds zinc to the tube, which is then followed up by, and additional coating, providing yet another layer of protection against rust and corrosion. The second and final part of the dipping process involves the application of clear polymer. This second coating bath is what gives the tubing a smooth and shiny finish but also acts as an additional protective barrier that will resist flaking over years of use.
Not all regions need a canopy that is designed for snow load use. Lighter weight frames and canopy covers are available for moderate climates and are used as temporary storage or shade. Shade canopies are perfect for dry hot climates with occasional strong winds such as Arizona and Nevada. Designed with our shade mesh tarps, the shade canopy provides UV protection from the sun but also allows air to pass through the breathable fabric. The breath ability of the shade mesh is key for windy climates. Since the air is able to pass through the fabric the tension on the canopy frame is greatly reduced, decreasing the likelihood of collapse.
Although any canopy can be considered an outdoor canopy it is important to note that there are different styles that serve specific functions. An outdoor canopy can be used as a car canopy, truck canopy, commercial canopy, party tent or party canopy as well as a snow load canopy, shade canopy, garden canopy or portable instant garage.
